A signet ring is made for one hand
The shape of the face (oval, cushion, round or octagonal), the weight and the size are chosen around the person who will wear it. Traditionally a signet ring sits on the little finger, but nothing is obligatory. A goldsmith looks at the hand and proposes the proportions.
Family crest, initials or a mark of your own
The engraving makes the ring. It can be a family crest, a monogram or a new design. Engraved in reverse it will seal wax; engraved to be read it is meant for the finger. Hand engraving is a craft of its own: some goldsmiths engrave themselves, others work with a specialist engraver.
Metal, stone and weight
A signet ring is usually solid gold, and a solid ring is heavy. That weight is most of the price, followed by the engraving. A signet can also carry a stone such as lapis lazuli, onyx or carnelian, with the engraving cut into the stone itself.
An inherited signet ring
A ring from a father or grandmother can be resized, and a worn engraving can often be recut. If the ring no longer suits, the family gold can be melted down into a new ring with the old crest on it. Add a photo to your request and the goldsmith will tell you what is possible.

- A clear picture or drawing is enough. The goldsmith or engraver redraws it to fit the face of the ring and shows you the drawing before anything is engraved.
- Which finger is a signet ring worn on?
- By tradition on the little finger of the hand you do not write with. Today people wear them on any finger, so the choice is yours.
- How does payment work?
- You pay once, through Lujoro. The money is held safely and reaches the goldsmith per milestone you approve, the last one on delivery.
